BOWEN THERAPY
Gentle, effective, fast
Holistic therapy for the mind and body
Bowen therapy
Since the 1960s, Bowen Therapy has brought long term as well as immediate resolution of problems and pain conditions of a musculoskeletal, neurological and neuromuscular nature for people in over 30 countries worldwide.
Bowen Therapy treats the whole body with a series of moves, sequences and timing intervals that stimulate a variety of anatomical or physiological responses resulting in long term and immediate resolution of problems and pain conditions.
How does it work?
The therapist delivers a series of gentle rolling moves at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments or nerves) and the body does the rest, responding in its own time, as it is able. Bowen addresses the entire body, by restoring balance via the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls over 80% of bodily functions and is very susceptible to external stressors.
Most people live in a state of high stress and sympathetic ANS over-stimulation (fight, flight or freeze mode). Healing can occur only after ANS shifts from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance (rest, relax and repair mode). Bowen is the catalyst for that shift.

Bowen for emotional wellbeing
When we go through emotional trauma, or endure long periods of stress and anxiety, unexpressed emotion becomes lodged in the body, in particular in connective tissue known as fascia. Much research has been done in this area, notably work by Dr Candace Pert.
Over time, this can start to manifest as physical issues such as unexplainable aches and pains, or digestive issues.
Because Bowen works on the fascia, it gently allows the body to return to a state of balance, thus emotional trauma’s held within the body can be released and energy flow restored.
This can have a profound effect on emotional and physical wellbeing.

Who is Bowen for?
Bowen is suitable for everyone – from babies to the elderly.
What does a session involve?
You will find your treatment very gentle, subtle and relaxing. No force is used, and no adjustment of hard tissue.
A treatment usually lasts up to an hour, where sequences of precise moves are performed with two minute rest periods in between to allow your body time to initiate healing responses.
The treatment is done through light clothing, so please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing.
How many sessions?
Every ‘body’ responds diferently, but most clients find 3 – 4 sessions are adequate.
Some clients continue to have monthly or 6-weekly maintenance sessions for overall wellbeing.
