Parenting support counselling
Parenting can bring immense joy, yet it can also come with stress and self-doubt. Raising children in today’s world presents challenges we never faced ourselves, and the constant flow of advice can make it hard to know what’s right. Often, our own childhood patterns and fears resurface, adding to the pressure. Parenting support counselling provides a safe, reflective space to focus on your own parenting, explore these feelings, and work through old patterns. Whether you’re a new parent or navigating ongoing challenges, I can help you reconnect with your intuition, find clarity, and move forward with confidence.
Understanding Parenting Challenges
When we hold our little bundle of cuteness it’s as though time stands still. But nothing truly prepares us for what comes next. Yes, there are moments of incredible joy, when our hearts feel like they might burst with love. But there’s a whole lot of other stuff too, that often, we feel ashamed to talk about. Like:
- Feeling overwhelmed or unsure how to respond to certain behaviours
- Experiencing guilt, frustration, or worry about “getting it right”
- Struggling to balance your own needs with theirs
- Feeling disconnected
- Facing challenges with sibling dynamics, co-parenting, or blended family situations
- Navigating adolescence, teen rebellion, or emotional struggles
That’s where I can help. In a safe, supportive space, we can explore what’s really going on for you, work through the tough feelings, and find practical ways to feel more confident, calm, and connected in your parenting journey.
Supporting your parenting journey
There is a saying that it takes a village to raise a child. I can’t provide a village, but I do offer a down-to-earth, empathetic space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace. This space is grounded in extensive training in developmental psychology and a genuine passion for helping parents thrive.
Though everyone’s parenting journey is unque, in my work with parents we will often:
Reflect on your parenting journey:
Together, we can look closely at your daily experiences, thoughts, and emotions as a parent. This reflection helps you notice patterns, understand your reactions, and celebrate what’s working well, giving you a clearer sense of your strengths and areas for growth.
Identify patterns and triggers:
Parenting can sometimes stir up your own childhood. If this is happening, we’ll gently explore it, helping you find ways to heal and move forwards in ways that feel calmer and more intentional.
Develop practical strategies:
We can work on approaches and tools that fit your family and your child’s unique needs. From setting boundaries with consistency to finding ways to respond with patience, these strategies help you feel more in control and confident.
Support emotional wellbeing:
Taking care of yourself is vitally important. Together, we’ll explore ways to manage stress, build emotional resilience, and reconnect with your values and intuition, helping you sustain your energy and maintain a sense of calm.
Some parents find journaling alongside counselling useful, as it provides a private space to reflect on daily challenges and support emotional wellbeing. It can be adapted to your pace and comfort, helping you notice progress and build confidence between sessions. You can read more about journalling with counselling HERE
